A brother and sister, ages 27 and 24, were killed in a collision with a tractor trailer in a work zone east of Greensboro, North Carolina. The defendant truck driver contended that the wreck was caused by a third vehicle which cut him off. Computerized accident reconstruction showed that this explanation was unlikely. Plaintiffs’ counsel assisted with the criminal prosecution of the truck driver which resulted in guilty verdicts for misdemeanor death by vehicle and falsifying a log book. After the criminal trial was completed and before the civil trial, the cases were settled for $2,500,000 per case, for a total settlement of $5,000,000.
