On March 3, 2014, a Davidson County man was killed after being hit by an Amtrak train. The victim was struck by the train as he was out looking for the family dog. The accident occurred near Turner Road in Lexington, North Carolina, which is just south of Winston-Salem. In North Carolina, there were 12 train accidents in the same period of time, 8 of which were derailments.
